He Saved a Child from the Rising Waters. The Next Morning, the Law Came Knocking.

Meanwhile, the police were building a case against Audrey and Mark. The videos on Martha’s phone and the files on Audrey’s laptop proved they had sabotaged William’s car.

“There’s no point in lying, Audrey. We have the evidence of the conspiracy,” the detective told her.

“Fine, I’ll talk, but I want a deal,” Audrey snapped. “It was about the money. I was supposed to marry him, get the inheritance, and then get rid of him.”

She knew she was finished. William would make sure she never saw the light of day again. He loved his daughter too much to ever forgive her.

A few weeks later, Frank was returning from a walk with Scout when he saw William’s SUV parked at his cabin. William was out of the hospital and looking much better.

“It’s beautiful out here,” William said, taking in the view.

“Thinking of buying a place?” Frank joked, inviting him inside.

“Frank, I never properly thanked you. I’ve looked into your history, and your past doesn’t bother me. I know you like it here, but I have a better offer. I need an estate manager and a gardener. You’d have your own place—a nice cottage on the grounds—and Scout is more than welcome.”

— “Lily hasn’t stopped talking about that dog,” William laughed. “The pay is good, and I need someone I can trust. Martha thinks the world of you, and Lily thinks you’re a hero. What do you say?”

“You wouldn’t be here if you weren’t sure,” Frank said, setting down his mug.

“I’m dead serious,” William nodded.

“Then I’m in. I don’t have much keeping me here, and I’d be a fool to say no to that.”

Frank was stunned when he saw his new home. The “cottage” was a beautiful two-bedroom house with a porch. Scout had a high-end kennel and a soft bed inside the house.
