The Best Revenge: A Small-Town Girl’s Journey Back

“The company will provide a corporate apartment—a three-bedroom. We’ll cover the relocation costs and provide a stipend for childcare or a live-in nanny if you need one.”

Valerie’s heart raced. A three-bedroom apartment? That was more space than she’d ever dreamed of.

Andrew noticed her hesitation and added, “You’ve got the talent, Valerie. You’ve been doing the work of three people for months. It’s time you were compensated for it. I expect to see that branch running like clockwork within ninety days.”

Valerie took a deep breath. “Ninety days. I can do that.”

She had a plan. If the apartment was big enough, Nancy and her kids could come too. Nancy’s husband was a long-haul trucker who was gone for months at a time anyway. They could be each other’s support system in a new city.

When she proposed the idea to Nancy, the other woman was hesitant at first, but after seeing photos of the new place—with a modern kitchen and a balcony overlooking the city skyline—she agreed. They packed their lives into a moving truck and headed toward a new chapter.

Valerie accepted the challenge. She had nothing to lose and everything to gain.
