Nancy’s help was invaluable. One morning, as Valerie was preparing for a rare in-person meeting at a tech firm, she felt a wave of anxiety.
“I’m nervous, Nancy. They want to talk to me about a permanent position. What if they realize I’m just a girl from a textile mill?”
“Then they’re idiots,” Nancy said firmly. “You go in there and show them what you can do. We’ve got things covered here. Go.”
“I don’t know what I’d do without you.”
“Just get that job, Val. That’s all the thanks I need. Now move!”
The meeting wasn’t just for a job; it was for a promotion. The firm wanted to appoint her as a Creative Lead for a new branch they were opening in a different city. The current team was struggling with deadlines and quality control, and they needed someone with Valerie’s discipline and vision.
Valerie was stunned. “I’ve never managed a team before. What if I fail?”
“Everyone starts somewhere,” the CEO, Andrew, told her with a supportive smile.
“In a very short time, you’ve become one of our most reliable assets, Valerie. Your technical skills are top-tier, but your work ethic is what sets you apart. Our clients love your style. We trust you.”
“But I have a young son. And my life is here,” Valerie countered, thinking of her small studio and Nancy.
