Katya opened the door, but not all the way—she left the chain on. She looked at her husband through the narrow gap.
“I changed the lock,” she said calmly. “You don’t live here anymore.”
Andrey froze. He stared at her, not understanding.
“What? What the…”
“I know everything,” Katya didn’t raise her voice. “About you and Lena. About the baby. About your plans to kick me out of my own apartment.”
Andrey’s face turned pale. He opened his mouth, closed it, opened it again.
“Katya, I didn’t… It’s not what you think.”
“Don’t lie,” she took out her phone, showed him a screenshot of the chat. “I saw everything. I heard everything. Yesterday morning at the hospital.”
Andrey stepped forward, tried to push the door. The chain tightened, preventing it from opening.
“Katya, open the door! Now!”
“No,” she stepped back. “Your things are here by the door. Take them and leave.”
“Are you crazy? This is my apartment!”
“No. This is my apartment. Only mine. I inherited it from my grandmother, you’re just registered here. And tomorrow, the documents for your eviction will be filed in court. And today, you’re moving out.”
Andrey yanked the door harder. The chain clanked but held.
“I’ll break this door down right now. Do you hear me?”
Dmitry stepped forward, stood next to Katya so Andrey could see him.
“I wouldn’t advise that,” he said calmly. “Destruction of property. Plus, unlawful entry into a dwelling. Want to face charges?”
Andrey froze, looking at the security guard.
“Who is this?”
“Security,” Katya crossed her arms over her chest. “In case you try to do something. Take your things and leave, Andrey. The easy way.”
“You… You have no right.”
“I do. This is my apartment.”
He stood there, breathing heavily. His face was red, his hands clenched into fists.
“Fine,” he hissed finally. “Fine, Katya. You’ll regret this.”
“I doubt it.”
Katya unhooked the chain, opened the door wide. Dmitry rolled the suitcases out onto the landing. Andrey looked at them, then at Katya.
“You’re destroying our family,” he said more quietly.
“You destroyed it,” Katya replied. “When you got into bed with my sister. Lena said you weren’t against it. That you discussed everything.”
Katya smirked.
“And you believed her?”
