The Price of Pride: The Unexpected End to an Old Family Feud

“A future isn’t made of money alone,” Kate said. “It’s made of character, self-respect, and the ability to live with yourself. Those are things you’ve never valued.”

“My sons will grow up to be decent men, not frightened shadows of richer men. And yes—they will know that their father and grandfather rejected them before they were born.”

Mike made one last attempt to step closer, but Kate stopped him with a single motion of her hand.

“Go home, Mike,” she said. “That train left three years ago.”

“Look at them now, because this is the last time you’ll be this close to them.”

Then she raised her voice toward the creamery.
